Ahold Delhaize USA said it recently detected a cybersecurity issue within its US network.
"Immediately upon detecting the issue, our security teams began an investigation with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts," the company said. "We also notified law enforcement."
The move affects:
- Stop & Shop, which has around 400 locations in New England, New York, and New Jersey;
- Hannaford, with stores in eastern upstate New York and New England;
- Giant Company, with locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia;
- Giant Food, with stores in the Washington DC metro area;
- Food Lion has over 1,000 stores in 10 states in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
All stores remain open and serving customers and are taking steps to mitigate the issue, Ahold Delhaize said.
"This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them," the company stated. "This issue and subsequent mitigating actions have affected certain Ahold Delhaize USA brands and services including a number of pharmacies and certain e-commerce operations.
"We will continue to take actions to further protect our systems. The security of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused customers and partners."
Ahold Delhaize's world headquarters is in the Netherlands.
